Camp Location

THE FRENCH ALPS - Haute-Savoie Region
Our camper will spend their holiday in a typical mountain chalet in the center of the village of Châtel (located between Lake Genevaand Mount Blanc).

Lodging : Our typical chalet built in 1970, 3 storey high and fully remodeled, offers rooms 4 to 6 beds (116 beds total) with shower facilities in each bedroom. A large dining-room with a view on the mountains, 4 activity rooms. It is located only a few minutes away from the center of the village.

Châtel is a typical Savoyard village with a long farming tradition. During their camp session our campers live among “the locals” who continuously share with them their knowledge of the local fauna and flora, as well as the traditions of this beautiful region of France.

ASTRONOMY:

Beautiful evenings during which our discoveries will makes us dream about journeys in the infinitely big …

We will learn to use a telescope properly, will learn to point at a galaxy, to photograph Saturn or to determine the age of a group of stars.  Our campers will investigate the sky and learn about our solar system...

- Discovering of the equipment, lerning how to assemble the telescope, manipulation of all the measuring instruments, observation of the Sun safely...

- Observation of the galaxies at night time and mapping (cartography) of the sky.

MICRO-ROCKETS :

Micro-rockets allow children to learn without danger about the parameters which govern the flight of a rocket. These Rockets can rise up to 150 meters before coming down to the ground (with a parachute).

Safely, our campers will test various models of rockets (the craziest rockets!). In their practice they will slowly be able to understand the laws of aerodynamics.  This activity will definitely help the children become aware of what is at stake in real spatial activities!

- Building our micro-rocket:
Construction and assembly of a rocket using simple materials (cardboards, balsa wood, thread, plastic (parachute)), the micro-propeller and the igniter will also be placed by our young engineers…

- Launching our micro-rockets:
5…4…3…2…1…0! Take off!
From our launch platform, the children will witness the firing process of a rocket; they will study the various phases of a flight (propulsion, ballistic phase and descent)

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES :

- Building huts in the forrest

- Orientation Races (by teams) ...learning to use a compass

- Nature workshop: "Awakening of the senses"

Nature by itself is a tremendous encyclopedia. An opened book in which the children will learn to read the local flora and fauna, under the supervision of specialized counselors. They will learn how to recognize footprints from different animals, discover their feeding posts and hide-outs…They will observe nature, get to know the forest with all its plants, trees, and many flowers (like orchids, famous in the region), initiation into the botany and the herbarium,

- Making a fishing rod... and fishing!

Other Activities - Swimming pool (Châtel) - Big games - Team sports - Parties… Activities will be scheduled (programmed) according to the wishes of the children and the propositions of the teaching staff.

Choice of Field Trips:

- Visit if the City of Thonon-les-Bains (literally, Thonon-the-Baths) a picturesque French spa town located on the south shore of Lake Geneva.

- Shopping in Châtel and Thonon-les-Bains;

- Picnic on the shores of the Lake Leman (also called lake Geneva), located half in France and half in Switzerland, this is the largest natural freshwater lake in western Europe (582 km²) . Relaxing near the lake beneath the French Alps helps bring home the full grandeur of the setting!
