Leucate-Plage is situated between Perpignan & Narbonne where the mountains meet the sea. Port Leucate is an attractive beach resort located in the heart of the Fitou & Corbière wine producing area this is the perfect setting for walking, cycling, water sports, and many fun activities!

LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON FRANCE 24 French Campers 3 Foreign students per group

Lodging: Our group will stay at the Municipal Campsite “Les Coussoules” located only 800 meters from the beach! (In the shade).  Trigano tents (4 children per  tent).  A large 8x5 m. tent will be used as an activity room and dining room.  All the meals will be freshly delivered each day by the camp base located in Leucate-Plage.

The Pre-teengers camp ( VSF Camp 13: ATOUT FUN and VSF Camps 14: Objectif Atlantide) will be staying in bungalow tentes, allowing our campers (pre-teenagers and teenagers) to experience a more enjoyable stay, more adapted to their age group (bedtime hours, everyday life and program of activities) which is not necesseraly compatible with that of the youngest campers present at the center.

Accomodation type for our teenagers: Trigano Esterel tents offering 8 beds per tent, separated in 2 separate quarters, with partition walls, groundsheet, solar lighting and and extra open activity tent of 60 sq. meters. Bedding, mattresses, sheets and comforters are provided. Toilets (washbasins, showers and toilets) are available in the center's main building.

Near the center: “La Franqui” is a beautiful, long sandy beach , popular with windsurfers and kite surfers. I t is the most popular place to kite in the region. The perfect spot to launch and land kites! (special kite zone)

Activities

1. DIVING:

This course provides a first diving experience under the watchful eye of a professional. Our campers will dive offshore, from a boat, or in the pond in case of bad weather. The diving equipment is supplied (wetsuits,  mask, fins, snorkel, weight, weight belt and boots.) This training course includes 7 dives (sessions of 3 hours each) and includes practical and theoretical training (20 meters deep dives).

1st session:
- Initiation to diving with a professional instructor to discover the activity (0 to 5 meters deep dives). Children will become familiar with the rules for safe diving, but more importantly, they will  understand the concepts behind those rules.

2nd session:
-Learn the signs and start exploring the underwater world!  ( 0 to 7 meters deep dives…),
- Campers will learn how to use their diving equipment properly,
- Safety instructions.

3rd session:
-Breathing under water (learning the techniques)
-Stabilization: finding balance under the water...

4th session:
-Emptying of mask,
 -“La plongée en Palanquée” (group dives)

5th session:
-Synthesis of the previous techniques,
-Work of stabilization in the 10 meters zone,
-Exploring the wreck of an ancient coaster "The Athena "

6th session:
-Dive into the 10 in 20 meters zone.  Explore the underwater fauna and flora.
-Dive into the Leucate "Fault " ( 18 meters deep dive) and discover who lives there!

7th session:
-Night-dive.  At night the fauna and the flora are very active: sea horses, crawfishes, spiny lobsters will be there!

Upon request, the Level 1 Diving Certificate will be delivered by the French Scuba Diving Federation.   

Children as young at 8 years old can start diving with programs taught in the safety of shallow water and aimed specifically at young children. From the age of 10 years old children can be certified as Junior Open Water Divers and those 15 years and older can be certified as Open Water Divers.

Other Activities

• Aqualand Park: excursion to this famous Water Fun park, offering water slides, rapids, wave pools etc...ready for a day full of emotions?
• Beach/ Californian Sports: Whenever they wish our youngsters will be able to go to the beach to practice skimboard, ultimate freesbee, beach-volley ball...or go for a swim
• Kite Workshop: Everyone will have his/her own kit to build his personal kite. He/she will decorate it and races will be organized on the beach!
• Sailing workshop: Campers will learn together and individually, under the supervision of professionals, the basics of Sailing: The boat and its equipment, Techniques of navigation, learning how to “read the wind” etc...
• Sailing trip: In small groups, campers will go on a half-day cruise on a typical old sailboat where they will discover the traditional way of sailing at sea!
• Hiking trips: a great way to discover this beautiful region of France!
• Moon-light “veillées” on the beach
• Big Games on the beach
• Parties

Choice of Field Trips

- Visit of the famous Medieval City of Carcassonne, a UNESCO world heritage site the biggest Medieval city in Europe, a unique monument with its castle and cathedral, en entire city surrounded by 52 towers!

- As with many treasured French foods, there is a long history and tradition behind harvesting the salt from the sea. There are two main areas of production of sea salt in France, one in the Brittany region on the Atlantic seafront, the other in the south of France on the Carmague salt marshes. Visit of a natural Sea-salt reserve.

- Visit of a Shellfish farm.
